    Awesomeness4firstTimePurchase

Posted by Geoff Gojko on Jun 13, 2022

I love this amplifier!! Plain and simple. I bought one last week with a link from Big D (Williston Audio Labs). It showed up in only three days and I was able to install it in my S10 before Slamology. In my setup Two channels run my four highs and the other two channels are bridged to run my sub. This amp is absolutely gorgeous in your hands but it also makes sweet music. I’m an old school car audio guy. I’ve been playing with car audio for 30 years and worked in car audio for a decade. I haven’t bought a new product in a very long time and when I saw this heat sink I knew this would be my first D4S purchase. It exceeded my expectations. The stereo separation is sharp & honest and the sound quality is very high. My sub digs deep and has strength. Highs are sparkling and clean. The frequency range of this amplifier paired with the versatile crossover makes it nice and flexible for many applications. I listened to it all weekend at Slamology and easily have 12 hours listening time and let me tell you, it sounds FANTASTIC. I visited the D4S tent on Sunday and bought another one because I know these will be in high demand and I am putting one in my daily driver too. JP and the crew are super nice and bend over backwards to make you feel welcome. Great group of folks to buy car audio from because you will get more than what you paid for plus I appreciate their presence at Slamology. This amp has earned my respect and so has DOWN4SOUND. Thanks from all of us old school lovers for this US Amps homage with modern awesome Guts. It’s performance lives up to its looks and has impressed everyone I’ve shown and let hear it. I plan to talk about it with every car audio fan I know. Sincerely, your new customer.

    Initial Review

Posted by Michael from Tampa on Jun 13, 2022

My background in Car Audio begins back in the 80’s when we would see how high a quarter would bounce off the top of your car. My first ‘major’ system was an Alpine 7909 with Hifonics amps, MB Quart mids/highs and a pair of M&M Godfather 15’s in an ’88 Camaro. Old school to say the least. I have been a fan of JP for a while, so I was excited to see his line of amplifiers that honored the old school look and feel. When he announced the release of a Class AB line of amps, I purchased two of these. This review is going to be my initial thoughts with a follow-up to how they sound and perform later. Build Quality: The heat sink is thick, and the cooling fins are space out nicely, which is very important for Class AB amps. The anodized purple is just beautiful. Flip this beast over and you will see one of the cleanest amplifier “guts” comparable to those in a much higher price point. It’s attention to detail like that that lets you know this was designed but a true fanatic. It’s so clean you will have a hard time deciding which side you want up for display (maybe that’s why I got two…just sayin’). All this and the fact that it comes with a plexiglass back plate in this price point is just unimaginable. Well done, JP. One area where I have concern is the QC at the build house. One of the amps I purchased had a crack in the plexiglass at one of the screw down points. If this was a more expensive amp (which it probably should be for what you are getting) I would expect better but for $279, I can’t complain at all. Another concern that I have is my own fault for assuming. The other Class AB amp that was release a couple weeks before this one, the JP13.2 ab, is made in Korea. I assumed that this one was too and was disappointed when I saw “Made in China” stamped on the box. Again, this is my fault for making this assumption, and probably won’t make much difference in anything other than price. Suggestion: I would like to see more information in the manual. What comes in it now is pretty good but for little to no additional cost you could include more details about various configurations that this amp is capable. For example, you mention that this amp is Band Pass Filter Capable; however, you don’t give any details on how to configure the x-over. Yes, it is obvious to most what to do but for those that don’t know, they would benefit from that info as well as a diagram under Speaker Connect with an example. Another suggestion is on page 4 under Speaker Connection 3, you are showing a stereo configuration on channels 1 and 2 with a mixed/mono configuration on channels 3 and 4. What you don’t mention is that you will want to run a passive hi-pass x-over on the stereo speakers and passive low-pass filter on the mono speaker in mixed/mono configuration on channels 3 and 4 to prevent frequency overlap causing an impedance issue and damaging the amp. Conclusion: You won’t find another Class AB amp in this power class with the features and attention to detail at this price point, period. If this thing sounds and performs half as good as it looks, this will be a huge hit. I’ll let you know… Michael from Tampa
